Histogen

Within Histogen's proprietary bioreactors, newborn fibroblasts are seeded onto a beadlike structure and conditioned with liquid media. Within a few days cells have produced a dense embryonic-like exceltrixTM and have secreted wnt proteins and various growth factors into the liquid that bathes them.

Our Technology
Histogen's products are manufactured in proprietary closed bioreactors that mimic the embryonic environment. Newborn fibroblasts are seeded onto beadlike structures, which are placed into a bioreactor and conditioned with a liquid media.

The simulated embryonic environment encourages the fibroblasts to produce an exceltrixTM material, which is rich in proteins and other valuable components characteristic of young, rapidly developing tissue.

The fibroblasts also naturally produce a variety of soluble biologicals, including wnt proteins (which are a key regulator of tissue formation and regeneration), and a wide variety of growth factors currently being characterized by Histogen researchers.

These proteins and growth factors make up Histogen's unique proprietary liquid formula

Through this single tissue-engineering process, Histogen is able to manufacture all of the company's products.

Histogen's unique bioreactor technology offers a wealth of benefits when weighed against competitive products which are based on embryonic stem cells and animal tissues.
  • Fibroblasts are easy to obtain and grow
  • There are no ethical drawbacks to the use and commercialization of fibroblasts
  • Histogen has successfully developed commercial-scale production processes which are economically viable
  • All of the derivatives of the fibroblast conditioning process can be used, creating a spectrum of products for a variety of markets from one core technology
